Our five-member Board is made up solely of Guffey community members. The Board functions under the Carver Model of Policy Governance. Under this governance model, all school operations are handled through written policies that were developed by this Board. These policies include how the board operates, how it interacts with the staff and students, and how the fundamental ends are achieved.
Community members are encouraged to attend our board meetings which are held at 5:30 PM the second Wednesday of every month.
I have lived in Guffey for almost 30 years. I was one of the founding members of the Guffey Community Charter School and have served as board president for the past 6 years. I have been active in the issues faced by rural schools through my past involvement in The Rural Community Trust, The Colorado League of Charter Schools and Rural School Network. I'm a strong advocate of effective governance and have facilitated workshops and trainings in Carver Policy Governance for many small schools and community out reach organizations through out Colorado. I have always supported place based learning that connects the student to the community in which they live. It has been a pleasure to have been involved with the Guffey Community School.
Chris Peterson is a physicist and astronomer. He first became involved with the school in 2001, when he brought a meteor analysis project developed by himself and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science into the classroom. He has been a school board member since October 2002. In his spare time he operates his local observatory, Cloudbait, teaches technology to the students, keeps the school's computers working, and maintains this website.

I have been a resident of Guffey Colorado since 1995, where my husband and I own and operate a small excavation company and a gravel pit. I love being a part of the greater Guffey community and look forward to working with the Guffey community Charter School. I feel very fortunate that my grandchildren attend the school as well. I come from a long line of school administrators and have an extended background in the field of special education. I hope to be able to continue to give back to a community that has supported me for many years.
My husband and I spent many summers in Guffey before completing our home and becoming residents in 2010. We have four children and seven grandchildren. I worked in Nursing Administration at Kaiser Permanente Hospital for twenty five years, before retiring in 2011. While at Kaiser, I volunteered to develop and manage the Search and Rescue Program, organized the Health Fair, 5K and 10K Runs and the Medical Cadet Program. I now devote my time to my husband, family, friends and community. I am enjoying the many opportunities to help in our beautiful community. Being involved with our schools is especially gratifying, as it allows me to help and enjoy the children of our future and our community.
I have been a resident of Park County since 1994. As a child, I always dreamed of living in the mountains. When I moved to Colorado in 1993, that dream finally came true. I've spent the last twenty plus years here in the Park/Teller County area and love it! It's easy to be excited about an area that you care so much about. I have been a Realtor in our area since 2002 and enjoy all the friendships that have come about because of it! My daughter and son-in-law also call Guffey their home - and have chosen to raise their two beautiful children here (which makes Nana and Papa very happy). This is a fantastic place to live and our school is THE BEST! I am thrilled to be a part of the Guffey Community Charter School.
